Body Flex Plus

I got my Body Flex Plus kit, ordered from ebay, yesterday.  I was pretty excited because I've been doing the old version of Body Flex for years now and really do think it works well if you stick to it, so I was eager to see what she'd done to change things and how she was going to use the gym bar.  The gym bar itself is basically a resistance tube that hooks into a plastic bar (the bar can break apart into two pieces for storage, but the button that releases it on mine broke the second I pushed it, so I'll just leave it together, I guess.

The workout itself is very similar to the old one, except it is done in a chair rather than through floor work and standing.  Several of the original exercises have been modified to do in a chair.  The gym bar is not used until the end, when strength training is introduced for triceps, biceps, shoulders, abs, waist, butt and legs.  I do feel it was a good workout and feels more comprehensive than the original.  Afterwards, I felt like going on, so I did another set of each of the strength exercises.  I definitely feel well exercised and I am sure this will be part of my daily routine.  There is also an advanced version that I would like to get for later on.

I'd give it an A.

Of the exercise options I have, here are the grades so far:

Treadmill:  motorized, C - It's a good work out, but it's very, very loud and monotonous.

Exercise Ball:  B - A wonderful tool to accentuate a work out with crunches, push ups and many other common exercises.  Even when I have used it alone, I've seen good results and it's great for protecting the back.

Resistance Tubes:  B - They are a great alternative to free weights if you purchase at least 2-3 different strengths.  Be sure and find a good workout program to use with them.  They can be cumbersome when using the Curves workout for resistance tubes, which involves winding them around chairs and all sorts of crap.  I tried to use the door accessory, but the tubes ate through the canvas.

Gazelle:  A - Wonderful product, no impact so it's great for people who have bad knees or hips, definitely lets you work up a sweat, but you have to really put yourself into it.  The cheapest model does not support people over 250 pounds, so heavier folks will have to get the more expensive model.  Gives a wonderful arm and leg workout and definitely burns calories.

Exercise Bike:  D - Hurts my butt.  Nuff said.

Recumbent Exercise Bike:  A - Only $108 at Walmart, gives a great work out with magnet resistance instead of air and definitely lets me feel the effects.

Yoga:  Suzanne Deason, "Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss.":  A - She isn't annoying and on the DVD, you can use the angle function to choose the workout level that is best for you.

I'm a happy girl!
